Worst Experience
At the end of the block one day, Ms. Houchins and I were talking about next class and what she was planning to do. She asked me if I wanted to go over the homework with the class and I said of course. It was a simple factoring homework with a little puzzle at the end of it. I saw the homework as a fun activity for me to do in my spare time. She gave me the worksheet to complete before next class and I was very excited to be able to prepare my answers and explanations a couple days in advance. That night I went home and solved each problem on my own and developed my way of getting to each correct answer. I had written everything down on the actual homework sheet as well as an additional sheet of note paper. I prepared myself because I know the students tend to struggle on the homework problems the most. They generally ask a lot of questions about the homework and the explanation usually takes up a majority of the block. I thought that this could be considered an opportunity for me to use the board and get more comfortable in front of the class before I teach a full notes-based lesson. I came to class the next A day with all of my notes and answers ready to go. Ms. Houchins started the class off as usual with the SOL practice warm-up questions. After she reviews those answers, she usually reviews the homework. I got out all my materials on my desk, ready to stand up as soon as she introduced me. However, she never did. She either forgot, or did not want me to go over the homework because she continued by herself reviewing the homework questions. I was thoroughly disappointed; however, I did not mention the incident to her. It was internally embarrassing and I was scared that she had not told me I was going to the homework after all. It was a let down and my worst experience in my internship.
